Artists of the Day 7/20/2016: Joan Jett & Siouxsie Sioux. PunXX!

Joan Jett originally started as part of an all female group of young girls known as “The Runaways” which featured several musicians still very well known, most notably Lita Ford who not too many years ago was part of the Brutal Legend game.Joan Jett and The Blackhearts “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” is one of the most known punk/post-punk rock songs of all time. Not just among female singers, just period.Like so many hits, it was even parodied by Weird Al, with a music video to boot!I’m sure some of you will go “I know that song!” when you hear Bad Reputation but didn’t know who it was by. Though you could also be mistaking it for the Eddie Cochran song Summer Time Blues which is quite similar.Siouxsie has a very unique voice and was always changing up her style throughout her career, sometimes punk, sometimes alt rock, sometimes new wave, sometimes sort of metal. She has worked with a surprisingly eclectic group of artists, including Yoko Ono, Basement Jaxx, and Morrisey. Also I can’t help be feel she looks like Mae Questel, the voice actor for Betty Boop, in her video for her song Peek-A-BooI have to be honest, I kinda have a thing for that old flapper look.
